The Helping Hands Outreach organization assist those who are experiencing hardship throughout the greater Bridgeport community. To assist with food, clothing, shelter, bereavement and emotional support and more...

From 2010 to 2016, Helping Hands had a total of zero paid employees. This means that 100% of donations went directly to the beneficiaries. We count on the generous contributions by individuals and organizations to make a difference in the lives of people who need it. We make it easy for you to choose which program or activity touches your heart the most, and the frequency with which you would like to donate.

Organization’s Capacity & Expertise

April Alston-Barron, the founder of the organization has a passion to help people and has dedicated her life to that purpose after the murder of her only son. HHO opened its office in July of 2012 and has operated with the monies from private donors who have believed in our efforts, and the personal support of its founder and volunteers. The non-profit organization, ABCD led by the executive director, Charles Tisdale, has been a lifeline and avid supporter of our agency’s mission. He has lent technical and personal financial support to HHO. We have performed our mission and met goals with a limited budget and staff.

Purpose for the Funding

The funding would help to give monies to families who may otherwise become homeless and the families separated. Often when families are forced to go into a shelter, families are broken up due to lack of enough space for them at the shelter. Children are embarrassed to live in a shelter and bear the shame in front of their peers. At the core of many domestic violence issues lies money problems and helping to maintain housing, clothing, food, and utility support allows a family to get through the rough times together. Many of our clients are female- head-of-households and the burden of a single parent home is overwhelming. To know that there is a support system available to them is reassuring and collaboration with other agencies is utilized.

The goals of Helping Hands Outreach are to help people to evolve and not revolve. Providing a support system that will lend a platform to effectuate positive differences and assist in personal growth and development in the lives of others is an attainable goal in many lives that we touch.
